February 22, 2021 – WKYC Studios and CHN Housing Partners are teaming up to help those in our community who are experiencing hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are facing utility shutoffs that threaten their health and wellbeing. We are raising funds to assist community members who cannot access assistance through other programs CHN administers.
Those needing assistance can access CHN’s existing utility assistance programs here. Applicants who do not meet the criteria for those programs but have a clear need will be considered for these funds up to $750 per applicant.

WKYC Studios approached CHN Housing Partners with this campaign idea because they encountered many people through their news coverage who needed assistance and an overwhelming number of viewers responded saying they wanted to help.
Since the pandemic started last March, CHN has seen a dramatic impact on our community. Since the launch of our Rental Assistance program in July 2020, applicants have reported lost income of over $211 million, a staggering number in and of itself but even more devastating when the lost income of those who did not apply for rental assistance is considered.
“We are grateful to be working with WKYC Studios on such an important initiative. We have seen thousands of families financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, families who are now unable to pay their bills to stay warm during this Cleveland winter,” said CHN’s Executive Director Kevin J. Nowak. “We are asking people to stay home to keep themselves and their communities healthy, but people cannot do so if they do not have heat. That is why this campaign is so important.”
The number of people we can serve is directly impacted by the donations received by the community. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to Keep the Lights on CLE at keepthelightsoncle.org.
