The Menwa Apartments represents a partnership between CHN and the Medina Metropolitan Housing Authority to improve and preserve the greatly needed senior housing units in the City of Wadsworth.
CHN Housing Partners partnered with Menwa, Inc. to renovate the Menwa Apartments, a (70) unit senior apartment complex located in Wadsworth, Ohio. The building’s renovations will effectively address tenant needs by correcting issues associated with the age of the building. Renovations will begin in March 2015 with an estimated completion in December 2015.
The Menwa Apartments have been well managed and maintained by the Medina Metropolitan Housing Agency (MMHA) and will continue moving forward. However, over the course of 40 years the building has never had any major renovations. The project will rehabilitate sixty-eight (68) one-bedroom units, and two (2) two-bedroom units. Five percent (5%) of the units will be renovated to be fully accessible.
The rehabilitation will incorporate, to the greatest extent possible, the principles of Universal Design by providing design features that will allow residents to age-in-place. Menwa Apartments will meet the requirements for 2011 Enterprise Green Communities certification as part of the renovation which will greatly enhance the energy efficiency and sustainability of the property.
Financing for the project came from Low Income Housing Tax Credits, Ohio Housing Development Assistance Program and Permanentfinancing by Forest City Capital Corporationthrough the HUD 223(f) LIHTC Pilot Program.
