June 8, 2018 – Today we were joined by Council President Kevin J. Kelley, Councilman Tony Brancatelli, officials from the Cuyahoga County Land Reutilization Corp. (or Cuyahoga Land Bank), staff from EDEN, Inc. and Metro West Community Development Corp. to begin the demolition of the Brooklyn YMCA building on West 25th Street in the Brooklyn Center neighborhood.

Built in the 1950s and closed in 2006, the Brooklyn YMCA is being demolished by the Cuyahoga County Land Reutilization Corp. CHN Housing Partners and EDEN, Inc. plan to build a 71-unit permanent supportive housing apartment building under the Housing First Initiative.

Led by Enterprise Community Partners, Housing First is a collaboration of community organizations in Cuyahoga County, including CHN Housing Partners, EDEN and FrontLine Service, which develops and manages permanent supportive housing.

When construction of this apartment building in Brooklyn Centre is completed in 2020, Cuyahoga County will have developed enough permanent supportive housing in the community to serve all individuals and families with disabilities who are struggling with long-term homelessness.
