Multiple Options Available for Financial Literacy and Homebuyer Education!

CHN offers financial and homeownership classes on a variety of topics. Attend free, instructor-led financial literacy and homebuyer education classes virtually through CHN!

Can't make our classes? Self-paced homebuyer education is available through Framework for a fee.

Homebuyer Basics Class

Interested in buying a home but unsure where to start? Sign-up for CHN’s Homebuyer Basics course!

During this free introductory class, our HUD-certified counselor will provide an overview of the homebuying process, including (but not limited to): improving your finances and getting mortgage-ready, the key players you’ll meet/work with, and researching financing options and first-time homebuyer programs. You will also learn about local resources and programs to help you in your homeownership journey and have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Note: No certificate is issued upon completion of this class.

Homebuyer Education 4-Part Series

Are you working with a realtor and/or lender? Are you getting ready to close on your first home?

CHN’s Homebuyer Education course is an 8-hour series that is geared towards households that are actively in the homebuying process. This free, instructor-led series is designed to meet HUD and National Industry Standards for Homebuyer Education and provides the tools and knowledge necessary for long-term homeownership.

Note: This course fulfills education requirements for HUD-approved down payment assistance and first-time homebuyer programs. Upon completion of the 4-part series, you will receive a Homebuyer Education certificate (valid for one [1] year from course completion date).

Unable to make these sessions? We also offer self-paced education and counseling through the Framework online homebuyer education platform (fee-based service).

Virtual: All classes are held virtually from 6 - 8 pm. A Zoom link will be sent out ahead of time. 

  • Laying the Foundation: Financial Readiness and Homebuying Basics
    Tues., July 16

    Start Strong, Plan Smart – Your Journey Begins Here. This introductory session will provide a comprehensive overview of the homebuying process and the foundational financial education necessary for prospective homeowners. Participants will learn to assess their financial readiness, create a realistic budget for homeownership, and understand the crucial role of credit scores. By the end of this session, attendees will have a solid understanding of the steps involved in buying a home and how to prepare financially for this significant milestone.

  • Navigating the Mortgage Maze: Finding Your Best Loan
    Thurs., July 18

    Unlocking the Secrets to Mortgage Success. This session will delve into the intricacies of the mortgage process and the various loan types available to homebuyers. We will explore the differences between fixed-rate, adjustable-rate, FHA, VA, and other mortgage options, helping participants determine the best fit for their needs. The class will also cover the distinctions between mortgage pre-approval and pre-qualification, how to calculate mortgage affordability, and the impact of interest rates and loan terms. Attendees will gain the knowledge necessary to navigate the mortgage maze with confidence.

  • House Hunting Mastery: From Search to Successful Offer
    Tues., July 23

    Discover, Decide, and Negotiate Your Dream Home. In this session, participants will learn the ins and outs of searching for the perfect home and making a successful offer. Topics will include strategies for finding the right home, the benefits of working with real estate agents, and the importance of home inspections and appraisals. We will also provide tips on making a competitive offer and effective negotiation techniques. By the end of this class, attendees will be equipped with the skills to discover and secure their dream home.

  • Sealing the Deal: Closing and Beyond
    Thurs., July 25

    Finalize, Move In, and Thrive as a Homeowner. This final session will guide participants through the closing process and the responsibilities that come with homeownership. We will cover the steps involved in closing on a home, understanding closing costs, and the role of escrow. Additionally, the class will discuss homeowners insurance, property taxes, and essential tips for maintaining both the home and financial health post-purchase. Attendees will leave with a clear roadmap for finalizing their home purchase and thriving as new homeowners.

  • Setting SMART financial goals
  • Strategies for building savings
  • Understanding credit and credit reports
  • Financial wellness and improving your relationship with money
