Feb. 12, 2020 — On Feb. 8, 2020, CHN teamed up with Enterprise Community Partners, KeyBank, and St. Ignatius High School to host the annual Super Refund Saturday. Volunteers from CHN, KeyBank and other organizations prepared and filed federal, state and city taxes for 176 individuals and families. Volunteers were able to secure $371,988 in federal refunds and $38,897 in state refunds for those who filed.
Each year, thousands of eligible taxpayers leave money on the table by not claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The majority of eligible taxpayers do not know about the EITC or if they qualify. This year, CHN and partners were able to claim $139,610 for filers in the EITC refund. Throughout the day, people shared with us the importance of this money and what they would be using it for in the upcoming year. From paying rent and bills, buying new appliances and paying off debt, to saving and investing the money, it is clear how much the EITC matters in so many people’s lives.
We would like to offer our thanks to the EITC coalition, the Legal Aid Society, United Way of Greater Cleveland, the City of Cleveland and Z107.9 FM for joining us on Saturday.
