Cleveland, November 18, 2022 – CHN Housing Partners (CHN) announced today that its emergency rental assistance program, the temporary program tied to the COVID-19 crisis, will wind down in December.
The last day to submit new applications for rental assistance on the program’s website, NEORentHelp.org, will be December 2, 2022. CHN will not accept new applications after that date. Any remaining documents must be submitted by December 12, 2022 to allow for processing by year’s end. Final payments will go out to landlords in early January.
“We came together in the Spring of 2020 and quickly designed and launched an emergency rental assistance program to help keep residents safely housed,” said Kevin J. Nowak, executive director of CHN Housing Partners. “This was during a time when ‘home’ was where we were all instructed to take refuge from the most serious public health threat in over a century.”
The program was launched in partnership with the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and various nonprofits and municipalities in the Summer of 2020. It became one of the best performing COVID relief programs in the state and the nation, distributing over $84 million in rental payments to more than 18,500 families facing a COVID-19 hardship.
“We are incredibly proud of what this program has accomplished and are grateful to our funders, partners, and staff as well as the thousands of tenants and landlords we came to know and serve,” said Nowak.
Completed applications for rental assistance (those that include all required information and documents) submitted by the deadline will be processed on a first come, first-served basis. All determinations of eligibility will be made by year’s end. The Rental Assistance program phone number (833-377-RENT (7368)) will remain open until December 12.
